On chapter 9 the chapter focused on challenges arising from the subject and purpose. This chapter talked about the challenges that a speaker can have to get the audience attention before he even goes on stage. One of those challenges is complexity. Sometimes the subject that a speaker chooses to speak about can be to complex and challenging for the audience to understand. Some other challenges that the speaker may have with getting the audience are challenges that are out of the speakers control. Some of these are “ Conflict with cultural values, Conditioned responses to emotionally loaded subjects and closed minds about public discussion of some taboo topics. At times it's impossible to get all of the audience full attention.

In chapter three there was a reading by David Auerbach that was called You Are What You Click.  David addresses the way marketing and advertisers get involved with the ads that we click online whether that is a facebook ad or an instagram bio link. Top platforms such as twitter facebook and instagram make most of their money based on ads. Another main idea that he talked about is how and individual will look up a certain clothing piece and later on when they are on social media an ad will pop out for that item because the social media platforms have access to what we are clicking in the internet web. Over all this was of of my favorite readings of the whole textbook because it teaches you how much access these big companies have on what you're viewing online.

In chapter eight of rhetorical act is based on challenges arising from the audience. In this chapter I learned that there is many different types of audiences. Some of these audiences are empirical, target, agents of change and created audience. Out of all of the audiences the one that stood out to me the most was the target audience because recently I have been doing speeches in my other communication courses and all of our speeches are based on who is our audience. This semester I have learned alot about target audience and how you would want to shape your speech and your vocabulary in your speech to target the audience.

A reading in chapter three which is called The ipod has changed the way we listen to music states that before the ipod we were only able to listen to one type of genre at a time. We were able to to expand our selection of music with the creation of the ipod

Rhetorical act on chapter 7 is based on the resources of language. Something new that I learned in this chapter about language is that language isn't necessarily spanish, english or portuguese, Language can also be the pitch, color, movement and space. Something else that I took away from this chapter is that something that we commonly do is abstracting. For example we can say thats my car but we don't necessarily go into detail of the car. We don't go in depth into all the details such as the color of the car the year or style of the car. When we do abstracting we don't realize how many details we leave outside when we are talking about a certain object or subject.

On chapter six Creating The Myth the author Linda Seger writes about how we can identify with superheroes because we tend to go through very similar circumstances and we relate to them. Most of these films like to talk about the basic journey that we take in life. Also we identify with these superheroes not just because they have experienced what we have gone through but because we wish we could do what the superheroes are doing. Another reading in chapter six was The Asian Renovation by Gates. This reading talked about how asians are portrayed in hollywood films for example in rush hour Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker work together as a team you rarely see a asian playing a solo part in a film as the main actor. This reading was something that I can relate to because aside from asians not playing a important role in films hispanics also don't play these important roles. Most of the time you will find yourself seeing a hispanic in a film and they will be either playing the bab sitter role or the house mate role.

On chapter 6 of rhetorical act the chapter discusses the resources of organization. Pn page 142 the author gives you a specific outline for a speech. This outline has a introduction, body speech and Conclusion. Later down the chapter the speak about different forms of organizing. There are three type of structure which are sequence structures, topical structures, and logical structures. Out of all the structures the of that I see myself using is logical structure. Logical structure is more of a cause and effect structure. For example for every problem there's always a solution.

On chapter six Does the big screen still shape our dreams is a set of essays that address how film and movies have had a big impact in our life. For example superhero films and love stories. A great example of a film that makes us shape our believes in love is the film the notebook. We grow up watching these films and then we believe that love is expected to be in a certain way. All of these hollywood films have something that we take away. It can all come down from a love relationship to a certain lifestyle that you desire. Growing up watching super hero films from marvel studios made me create a false life style in my head. As kids we want to be invisible and be able to have the superpower to fly and I think that's a great example on how hollywood films have a big impact in the human beings.

On chapter 5 from the rhetorical ct book the main focus of the resources of argument. Some main ideas in this chapter are reasons, issues and questions. There are two different kind of questions in this chapter that the author spoke about. There is questions of fact and questions of value the difference is that the question of fact is a dispute about the evidence that exists as well as how it should interpreted. Compared to questions of value that is very different. Questions of value focus more on desirable, useful, or what is moral or ethical.

This week's reading was on popular music that help us express our identities. In this chapter they talk about different genres that were being sung from people with different identities. The artists that stood out to me was Pamela Hollander. Pamela's was a hip hop artist that would use her music to express what she was going through in her love life. She would also sing song that related to her feminine identity. In the other reading Elevate My Mind they speaking about how difficult it is for women to be taken seriously in the hip hop world. Since the beginning hip hop has been seen as a area that has been dominated by male. I personally have seen it first hand. Their is a handful of female hip hop artist that are well known and successful in the hip hop industry. I strongly believe female artists should have more opportunity in the hip hop world.

On chapter four the main idea of the chapter was based on the resources of evidence. The first thing that the author addressed was that all evidence that is being used whether that is in a speech or in a paper has to be judged by two criterias. Those two criterias are “What are its logical or empirical strengths and limitations?”(p.87) and “ what are its psychological powers?”(p.87). Toward the middle of the reading the author states that visuals can work in two ways as evidence. Visuals can either reinforce a point or the visual can turn out to be its own presentation.

Chapter five on reading pop culture focuses on the influence that television has in the american culture. A decade ago family would would sit around the television and watch TV for hours but now a days it's so difficult to even find time to sit around the kitchen dining table and have dinner with the family. Throughout the reading they also address how television is better than movies. Television is better because they have more resources to grab the audience's attention. For example if its a TV show they have the opportunity to make many episodes and eventually seasons to tell one story compared to a movie where they have at most 3 hours to tell a whole story. If a movie producers plans to add on to a movie the production of a new film can take up to many months to years. Thats is why television is better than movies.

Chapter eleven’s main focus is understanding evaluation. At the beginning of the chapter they compare members from the daily show as well as individuals from the view. The group of people who work for the view evaluate more critical due to what they speak and talk about in their show. In the view they focus more in politics, sports and media so their critical evaluations are based on their own opinion. When it comes to evaluating their is 4 standards those four standards are aesthetics, effects, ethics and truth. The author also added that these standards are relevant to rhetorical action.
